💥How much yarn for your project: ua-cam.com/video/ZM9oEkDI7Ho/v-deo.html
I recommend using the below hook sizes depending on yarn used:
3 DK yarn : 3.5mm to 4.5mm
Size 4 Medium/worsted weight: 4.5mm to 5.5mm.
Mixing 3 & 4 weight: 3.5mm to 4.5mm
SIZE 1 Lace Weight - 2.75mm to 3mm hook used on slouchy hat
HOW MUCH YARN FOR YOUR PROJECT: The best way to figure out how much yarn you need is to create a one repeat swatch and then measure how much yarn you used of EACH color. This video walks you through the math: ua-cam.com/video/ZM9oEkDI7Ho/v-deo.html
Note on mixing yarn sizes 3 (DK) & Size 4 (Medium Worsted weight): THE TRICK TO MIXING YARN SIZES IS JUST KEEPING YOUR TENSION EVEN AND USING THE SMALLEST SIZE HOOK RECOMMENDED FOR THE SMALLER YARN! You can use any yarn size you like and can use yarn that is all the same size, you do not have to mix yarn sizes.
PROJECT IDEAS
This design is best suited for Top down constructed projects. You can create any project you like from Mosaic Crochet.
Working flat or in the round, you can make, Zipper Down Purses, Notions Pouch, Make-up Bag, Laptop bag, Sweaters, Kimonos, Scarves & Shawls can be made using the upright and upside down versions of the design so that you can switch direction mid Scarf/Shawl to allow the direction of the cactus to be in the correct direction when the item is worn around the neck/body.
Project info and starting:
To begin your project you will chain in multiples of 16 plus 4 at the end to work a flat piece. You will skip the first chain and begin working in the second chain from the hook, ending up with an odd number of stitches. EXAMPLE: I chained 36 and had 35 stitches at the end of my first Foundation Row.
TO WORK IN THE ROUND: chain in multiples of 16 and slip stitch to the first chain. begin working the repeat in the first stitch [same stitch you slip stitches into) and follow the Repeat as given in the video.

Lovely, thank you Courtney ❤.
Thank you sooooo much!!!
Am i first here today? Love your videos!
Yes you are!!!! THANK YOU!!!! If you would like a free copy of this pattern comment back with your email address and I'll send it over to you. I'll delete your reply with email address as soon as I finish sending you the file.
Ok now I understand . I had body/sleeves mixed up😊
😁😁😁so happy this helps you!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
I love your crochet hook!. where can I buy them?
www.nelsonwood.net/store/c1/Storefront# I love his hooks, check his ready to ship section to see if he has any that are discounted. I put a link in my description box to whatever hook I'm using but the majority of the time, they are Nelsonwood. His are my favorites. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻💙🦊
Thank you so much for posting this. It's very helpful!
You are so welcome!! You are the second person to let me know it helped them. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment and tell me. I have never done a walk thru type video like this so I wasn't sure if it was any good or not😅. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻😘😘😘💙🦊
I understood the original concept easy enough. This covered all the little detail questions that I had. Well done. Thank you. 😁
Okay great! Thank you!!!! I am so glad to know this is actually helpful!!! I was worried I'd missed questions I kept adding to the video and re-uploading it 😅 🤣💙💙💙😘🦊
Courtney, you have made it so I can mosiac clothes
Yayaya!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🥰🥰🥰😘😘😘😘💙🦊
This is a lovely piece. It would make a very pretty market bag or book bag. Consider alternating rows with the lilac petals and the lilac leaf ~ it's heart shaped!
😘😘😘😘😘💙💙💙💙💙thank you!! That would be sooooo pretty!!!! I love it!!! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🦊
As you said, your methods are familiar. But Courtney, your unique style is delightful and inspiring. I did one of your designs as a blanket, then you showed me how to use Excel to design my own and ditch the graph paper. I like to fit a mosaic into almost anything, but market bags and beanies get used a lot and noticed a lot! Here in the 'Mitten' state a beanie with a band of mosaic around the ears keeps out the winter winds, and it looks very fascinating as well. So, as I was watching you present your work, ideas kept popping into my head, and then you'd add that as an option ~ hilarious! I hope you have enough people to need your tutorials, because I enjoy playing them while I work on current projects! I love your start on the Halloween jester top! Hahahaha! Great job - what a task. Whew!
I love, love, LOVE that you are still making your own designs!!!! And that you live to fit mosaics in to all your projects. That is so awesome🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 being that you are in the mitten state, have you heard of a store called Made in the Mitten? Its in Royal oaks, she has a website. It's all handmade items made in the mitten🥰🥰. I don't know if you sell your items that you make but in case you do.....😁😁 Definitely check her out, there is an application to be able artist in her shop. Thank you soooo much for your kind words, I really do appreciate them so much.😘😘😘you are total doll abd always soooo sweet. 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 great minds think alike and i swear sometimes it seems like we are a hive mind here, all thinking the same things! Its crazy in a good way for sure🤣🤣Definitely got my ugly sweater started in time for... something.... didn't I 🤣🤣🤣🤣
❤ love all your videos
Thank you!!!
Hi Courtney, thanks for the tip!
You are so welcome!!! Thank-you si much for coming by and hanging out with me! I see you went on a watching spree. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻😘😘😘😘💙
How refreshing to hear your laughter again! The lampshade was so ambitious and I'm glad you figured it out because it's wonderful! I love the burp cloth idea, but they appear to be about the size of a tea towel (I don't need burp cloths, but maybe when I ger really, really old?). I love your pillows - working in the round is my favorite way to go to avoid tails. The apron is too pretty to get messy - I'd hang it on the wall as a piece of art ;-P
Thank you!!!! Only thing I would change on the lampshade is the glue to make it stiff. My friend told me her grandma used to make crochet bowls and she used liquid starch to form and hold the shape. Definitely going to try that on the next one. 😁😁😁 I do see adult burp cloths in my future at some point or maybe a bib 🤣🤣I tend to dribble drink on myself now, I cant see this improving with age 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Any of the three
🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 Last night I released the walk through for the sleeve construction method. I am working towards getting the second method filmed. Hope you enjoy making one of these with me when I get all the videos done. Thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to weigh in on my question 😁😁😁😘😘😘😘💙🦊
I would love a tutorial too. You do very beautiful work.
Thank you so much!!!😘😘😘😘😘🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 Yesterday I put out a walk thru and demo on the sleeve construction one (first one shown). I am working on diagrams and getting myself ready to film the full complete tutorial on the second construction method I showed andctalked about. Hope you enjoy making one of these when I get all the tutorials filmed and up. 😁💙🦊
I really love the look of twisted fringes with the ends. Gives it such an antique exotic look.
I agree and I love it too, some projects are just set off by the fringe 😍😍😍😍🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻💙🦊
Thank youuuuuuuuuuu😘
🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻😘😘😘😘😘😘💙🦊
I love the blanket! I need that zipper. You should leave the A/C on so that you can be comfortable and let leave whoever is so picky that they can't tolerate hearing a slight hum of an A/C unit in the background. It's part of real life and you are better off without those subscribers. They will only find something else to complain about eventually. Hugs & blessings💜💜💜
You are absolutely right 💙💙💙 you get to a point where you just start doing things to avoid negativity and all the complaints that pour in. But just like you said, they find something else 🤣🤣🤣 most of the time those people aren't even subscribed 🤣🤣 I do like having the tutorials be as quiet as possible but its never bothered me to hear background noise. I did grow up in a house full of kids though so I'm used to noise 🤣🤣🤣 I'm definitely going to have no choice other than to run it this summer because it's just too hot this year. I can't get it to cool back down for hours after I have it off for filming. Thank you sooooo much for stopping in and for taking the time to talk to me down here in the comments. I appreciate it so much! 😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘😘💙💙🦊
@@FiberFoxStudios I grew up in a house full of kids (having 3 sisters) and ended up having 4 boys of my own, so maybe I'm just immune to background noise, too. Still, I think if we would all give one another as much grace as we ourselves need, the world would be a much better place. Hugs & blessings, and thanks for responding. Love you💜💜💜
@shaykayraycrochet I think me and you are 2 peas in a pod on this subject!💙💙 I feel the same way as you do. 😘😘😘 Thank you so much for talking with me and sharing your thoughts. I really do appreciate it and love talking to sweet people like you.🥰🥰🥰💙🦊
I always watch all the way to the end, and I never fast forward. I love your laugh. It is contagious, though, so I do have to be careful since my stomach hurts when I laugh. I still love to hear it though. I have to agree that the court jester was my first thought, too, once you put it on, but I think it's more the triangles around the top of the neck giving that appearance. I think it would be better if you could think of something that naturally increases in shape as it goes down. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that wouldn't be upside down when working top-down, though, like the butterflies and the hearts. You would need something that has the shape decreasing from bottom to top like a pear since you're, in essence working it upside down from a top-down perspective. Obviously, that's why your first impulse was the triangles. Maybe if you could do an upside down (to you) fleur-de-lis pattern ⚜which would grow naturally if you start from the top tip and increase out as you increase the yoke around the neckline? I don't know, they might still look court jester-ish. I love the idea of a top down mosaic sweater, though. I love the cardigans, but I think I like the one best where you didn't do the sleeve portion in mosaic but just the bottom half. That gives you more freedom to decrease on the sleeves if you want them more fitted or to even go all the way to the wrist without being baggy. I just find that my open/loose crochet sleeves tend to snag on everything from door knobs to drawer pulls to dishwasher racks, LOL :) So having the option to keep those snug at my wrists is a must, especially for winter cardigans which I'm more likely to make in mosaic. Hugs & blessings! Love you💜💜💜
Thank you so much for weighing in and for being do kind.🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻 I actually have been working to flip some of the designs to upside down orientation so that they can be worked top down. Cactus is done, butterfly is next then I'll do the hearts. That's going to help me to be able to use them on the redesign of the court jester sweater 🤣 I'm glad you sew it too!! I definitely think the triangles are where I started to go wrong🤣🤣🤣 sent me in a direction that I wasn't trying to go 🤣 I've got a walk through "tutorial" uploading for the sleeve construction that will hopefully help the more advanced folks get started. I'll be doing a full tutorial for the back panel construction it's just going to take quite a while to film the entire thing. I'll get some more of the upside down patterns filmed so I have something to release while I work on the sweater stuff. The upside down patterns are great to use with top down zipper pouches etc too. Hope you have a wonderful day and hope to see ya in the comments again soon 😘😘😘😘🥰🥰🥰🥰
Thank you for sharing your technique ❤
Thank you for watching and commenting!😘😘😘😘😘💙🦊
This looks like a great technique, are the knots when binding off visible?
If you stagger them they are hard to find. A crocheter could find them im sure but I feel they mask well. We have am eye like no other because we know the technique. But an average person won't notice.
Great technique. I often weave in ends and place a knot after the first weave so the yarn doesn't slip out backwards. This would be just as effective but alot quicker!
Yes!!! That's why I started doing it this way. I was wasting time and yarn leaving long tails to sew in a bind off. So much faster in my opinion. 😘😘😘🥰🥰🥰💙💙💙
You are a wonderful human being ❤ Thank you for all your work
You are wonderful too and sweet people like you are why I keep doing it. Thank you so much!!! 😘😘😘😘🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Wonderfull ideas, thank you soooooooo much. Kissesvfrom Munich
You are so welcome! 😘😘😘😘😘😘💙💙💙
Nicely done. I want to learn mosaic but I haven't gotten into the mindset to do it
Thank you!!! Once you catch the Mosaic bug, it's a hard one to shake 😁😁🤣🤣 definitely look around at other designers like Sixel Designs or Tinna. Both have some great tutorials that i think you'll love. I think the right design that really grabs you can be just the thing to put you in the "I have to try this!!" mindset. 💙💙 I have an updated version of this tutorial where I talk WAY less, so I highly recommend that one IF you decide yo give a swatch a try. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch and for commenting, I REALLY appreciate it more than you know.
@@FiberFoxStudios thanks for sharing. I'll definitely check out a few other designers and possibly try a small project before jumping in too deep with a big project...lol
Just love you and the talent you share with so many❤
😘😘😘😘😘 thank you so much for watching and for taking the time to leave such sweet comments 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Love the gifted burp cloth and love the shade too
Thank you soooo much!! 😘😘😘😘😘💙💙💙💙🦊
I would love a pattern.I would love for you to get Come up Some type of pattern right now's a good time to start On a winter sweater and i'm going to try but I don't think I can do
On the sweater that has the 2 colors mosaic at the bottom. How did you get the solid color at the top?Is that just double Crochet's
I started at the top in the doling color doing HDC's, then once my top was done I added in the second color to work the Mosaic. You start at the back on that sweater so you can begin in solid or you can do it in Mosaic like the blue one. I'm not sure if I'm actually being helpful with this answer but I'm trying to be. Please let me know if I completely misunderstood the question. Really sorry if I did.
Thank you I’ve been following you for about a year ❤❤❤ Now I think I’m ready to combine patterns YOU ARE A GREAT TEACHER NOT ONLY MOASIC JUST CROCHETING IN GENERAL and I love WHEN YOU GIGGLE ❤❤❤ I’ve looked at others and I had to figure out repeats and all very frustrating YOU ARE MY # 1🎉 go to now! Thank you 🙏 I’ve recommended you to strangers when they ask who taught me Fiber Fox Studio Please keep giggling 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
Aweee thank you so much!!!! And yayayaya I am so happy you are ready to mix patterns!!! It makes it so fun because you are coming up with a completely custom piece. You are so sweet and I really hope you have fun with this knew knowledge
I would love a full tutorial on ANY of your patterns. I find it confusing trying to put together different mosaic patterns to make a whole project. I really need to be shown each step unfortunately. How many views total do you have for the shawl videos you posted about 2 years ago? They may not have had a lot immediately after posting but I bet over time they have accumulated a lot more… as mosaic crochet gains in popularity and people discover you. It may be time to revisit the idea of full tutorials. See what happens now. I, for one, hope you do!
I really appreciate your kind words and I fully understand where you are coming from needing to be walked through the full project. I revisted the farahan series at its 2yr birthday and went back over all numbers. The videos took 120 hours to film. During that time my channel tanked, and even with these videos going out rapidly my numbers stayed down. The revenue on the last video you commented on from Farahan for its entire lifetime of being out here on UA-cam is $44.03 as if today. In 2 years all 4 videos grand total in revenue was 262.78, for all 4, fir 2 full years. That's better than the year prior CAL, but this one took me 4 months to design, perfect, write and test. Pattern sales did not help much, they have remained slow since gas prices rose in April of 2022 just prior to the release. There were a number of people who fast forwarded through and I know this because they missed rows and came at me about how I had messed up, and I was missing rows blah thru blah. The first few times this happened I really thought I had messed up on these different areas. Sent me into a total panic and i spent hours watching all the rows they said were missing 🤣🤣🤣 I definitely don't think everyone does that but it happens on all my longer videos. I do everything knowing I'm not really going to make money at it but I want to share and have fun with yall. I want to make all the people who truly do watch and also care about me as a person happy which is why I decides to show the sweaters and see which one yall would like to make. I think sometimes that I should do memberships but then I feel bad because I do not want to leave anyone out. So I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place🤣 from a business standpoint, I do this allllllll wrong 🤣🤣🤣
@@FiberFoxStudios that’s not enough $ for the amount of work, I agree. So either you have to decide to do it as a non-paying hobby, or you have to tweak your system somehow. I hope you don’t stop though. Bag-O-Day took about 10 years to gain the audience she has … so it can definitely take a while. I think if you made more step-by-step tutorials, eventually “they will come”. You’re so good at making tutorials. Your lighting and focus is on point. One can see each stitch. I had zero questions throughout the Farahan Shawl videos. Please keep going.
You are so sweet and I really do appreciate it. It's a bit too much work at this stage to just be a hobby especially as equipment has to be upgraded or replaced. I am trying to just have fun and not worry about it but at the end of this year I am going to decide if I am going to continue at the same level and pace.
This is a fantastic pattern and you teach it so well. I had no issues whatsoever following along with you. I hope you record another full project one day. I know it’s a HUGE amount of work for you… but I don’t really know how to put together the smaller patterns to make something bigger. I get easily confused trying to figure out how to put together patterns with various multiples. I also think you’d get a lot of views for videos like this one, where you record a whole project. All of us who need the handholding would watch each video several times while we’re making the project. Anyway, I thank you many times over for recording this project. I’m about to finish my 2nd shawl.
I am soooooooo happy you are finishing up your second one!!! And thank you so much for working along with me. I reallllllly appreciate that more than you know! 😘😘😘😘😘😘
Just subscribed. I jHave a sweet roll cake coming from Etsy that was on sale. Have dk acrylic tan yarn. And bunch of acrylic yarn
Thanks for subbing! Sweet rolls are a great choice!! You definitely can use any yarn you want with Mosaic so you are all set!!!
Thank you! You helped so much. I've got gaps when I dc. It's tension. Working to fix that. Thank you.
This is so helpful! Thank you! 🙏🏻

Love your work. You the best 😘😘😘 🌻🌻🌻 from SA
A full tutorial on all three would be greatly appreciated especially the solid/mosaic one. The top down mosaic colors is lovely but maybe a different starting pattern would change your view. Please continue to do all this for the crochet community...we appreciate you! I've tried to crochet tops but never completed them...the sleeves don't fit right ...granny arms...or the football linebacker....lack of shaping... look isn't for me. Hope you forget about the people that have an issue with your joyful laugh...it's contagious.
This is amazing can’t wait to do it!!!
Love both sweater patterns. I would need a full tutorial tho😊
Another awesome pattern. Thank you so much Courtney!!!!! Can't wait to start this one!!!!!!
I love your mosaic patterns 🌻🌻🌻
Thabk you so much Linda!!! 1🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻😘😘😘💙
if you can crochet you can mosaic is the new catchphrase for sure 🤩🥰
How can I send you a pic of my shawl that I made using your designs? You're am amazing teacher. Never thought I could do any mosaic pattern until I found you. Bless you for your time and extending your knowledge. Much love from Australia. ❤
I would love to see it! Etsy message is one way, Instagram is the other. I'll keep my eyes on the lookout for it, I definitely want to see!!!!! Thank you so much for following along with me on this journey, so happy you are enjoying it.
All in one piece?! Drool yes! Sleeve construction sounds like fun! I am here for all of it. And your laugh is your trademark. I LOVE IT!
Your laugh is not annoying!!! Its a very contagious laugh and it makes me smile :) Love the second sweater....not going to say to do a tutorial, because i honestly dont know when id get around to attempting it.....i have a love/hate relationship with wearables.....heavy on the hate.. They never turn out right. Currently jumping between 3 projects....mosaic placemat that im making as a blanket by made by gootie, designing an ami and trying to do my first mosaic design...a southwest/santa fe inspired afghan
I fully understand that!!! Garments are tricky, its much easier for me to make something for myself only, astoundingly harder to make something and figure out all sizes plus alterations and customizations that may be needed for fit on different body types 😅😅 that's my love/hate relationship with them🤣🤣🤣 Yaya on your designs you are working on and SUPER HAPPY TO HEAR ABOUT YOU DESIGNING YOUR FIRST MOSAIC!!!!! When you get it ready for release please let me know so I can share it to my crochet friends. 😁😁😁😁😁We obviously love Mosaic over here in this corner of youtube 🤣
I prefer inset sleeves. I just don't think those knit/crochet seamless garments look good on women - particularly from the back. They make women look like football players. Not good - in my opinion. If you would be so kind, please make a full complete tutorial from a - z. Assume one knows nothing. If you could make a tutorial with inset sleeves technique, that would be great! Thank you. Your creations are wonderful.
You bring up some very valid points. You look WIDE isn't the sort of thing every gal wants to hear for sure 🤣🤣 BUT I think it's also very important to consider the yarn used. A lot of people use size 4 and a 5mm hook for most projects. The second sweater I showed is in size 1/2 with a 2.75mm hook, and it doesn't create the line backer look. It lays properly in the back. Sweater 1, because I used size 4 and to me it was on the bigger side for a 4, I will NEVER wear it in public EVER. I made it for around the house knowing the outcome was going to be unflattering on me. The next one i make will be in smaller yarn for sure 🤣🤣 THANK YOU so much for your comment and suggestions. I appreciate the feedback and suggestion for another construction methad to think about and explore. 💙💙💙😘😘
I would say start with the sleeve and than the start with the Body
I wanted to add a picture of my finished project here but I don't know how. Thank you
I wish so badly that you could!!! but even I can't add images here in comments. 😫 that's the one feature that I always hoped they would add but never have. If ypu post on Instagram and tag me or use the #fiberfoxstudios I will be able to see it!!! 💙💙💙💙
